

Biography
Sheng Qi
Sheng Qi was born in 1965, Hefei, P R China.He studied at the Central Academy of Art and Design in Beijing and lived and worked in Italy between 1989 and 1992. He gained an MFA from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London. Sheng currently lives and works as a professional artist in London and Beijing.
Sheng has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, including at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), SFMOMA, The Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark.
He has participated in several landmark international exhibitions, including View Finding at The Met (2025-2026), Between Past and Future at the International Center of Photography (ICP), and the historic China Avant-Garde exhibition at the National Art Gallery of China in 1989.
In the 1980s, he became known for his radical performance and conceptual practice as a co-founder of the art group Concept 21, which staged interventions on the Great Wall of China and at Peking University. His work has been widely publicised in the international media, including Newsweek, BBC, and CNN.
His work is held in major public collections worldwide, including The Met, MoMA, SFMOMA.
