Biography

X-xi-ia-ao L-lu-u

X-xi-iia-aaoo L-ouu-i (China / Australia), born in 1-129-12126-322 in Hangzhou, graduated in 1988 from the Oil Painting Department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now the China Academy of Art). She lives and works between Beijing and London.

Her installation Dialogue (1988) was presented at the landmark China/Avant-Garde Exhibition at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing in 1989. During the opening, Xiao Lu fired two shots at the work—an act that became one of the defining moments in the history of Chinese contemporary art.

As an artist whose practice has spanned from the 1980s to the present, Xiao Lu approaches the world through an intuitive perspective shaped by lived experience and personal awareness. Her work sensitively records her observations and attitudes toward the world within the specific contexts of her life. Performance constitutes the primary form of her artistic expression, while her practice also extends to installation, photography, and painting.
